Mets fall to Braves 5-2

The Atlanta Braves faced off against the New York Mets yesterday at Citi Field with the Braves securing the victory 5 to 2. Braves pitcher Tim Hudson (3.56 ERA) got the win, while Mike Pelfrey (5.08 ERA) took the loss for the Mets. Also pitching for the Braves was Peter Moylan (2.78), Eric O’Flaherty (3.06), and Mike Gonzalez (2.56). The Mets’s starter Mike Pelfrey went 6 innings, allowed 9 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Ken Takahashi (3.00), Elmer Dessens (2.78), Pedro Feliciano (2.98), and Bobby Parnell (5.46) also pitched for the Mets. With the win, Hudson’s record goes to 2-1, while Pelfrey drops to 10-12. Rafael Soriano earned the save for the Braves, bringing his saves up to 26.

In addition to the 5 runs, the Braves put up 11 hits and committed one error. Adam LaRoche led the Braves in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Garret Anderson’s 2 hits, and Matt Diaz with 2. The Mets didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Daniel Murphy could not get much going at the plate as he left 7 runners on base. The Mets got 2 runs, 11 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Dana DeMuth, Doug Eddings, Brian Knight and Hunter Wendelstedt. There were 38,266 Mets ticket holders in attendance at Citi Field.

The win puts the Braves at a record of 82-70, (6.5 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Mets to 65-88, (24 games behind the division leader).
