Nationals take close one from Mets

The Washington Nationals squeaked to victory over the New York Mets yesterday at Nationals Park with the Nationals triumphant 5 to 3. Nationals pitcher Drew Storen (0.00 ERA) got the win, while Raul Valdes (2.66 ERA) took the loss for the Mets. Livan Hernandez went 6.1 solid innings for the Nationals, allowed 4 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Nationals was Tyler Clippard (2.22). The Mets’s starter R.A. Dickey went 6 innings, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Fernando Nieve (5.40), Oliver Perez (5.88), and Manny Acosta (3.60) also pitched for the Mets. With the win, Storen’s record goes to 1-0, while Valdes falls to 1-1. Matt Capps earned the save for the Nationals, bringing his saves up to 15.

In addition to the 5 runs, the Nationals managed 8 hits and committed 2 errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Nationals, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Ivan Rodriguez had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Mets didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Fernando Tatis could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Mets mustered 3 runs, 5 hits and no errors.
