Mets take close one from Marlins

The New York Mets squeaked to victory over the Florida Marlins yesterday at Citi Field with the Mets triumphant 7 to 6. It was a thrilling night of baseball that anyone with Mets tickets will definitely cherish.

Mets pitcher Pedro Feliciano (2.11 ERA) got the win, while Clay Hensley (1.76 ERA) took the loss for the Marlins. Hisanori Takahashi went 5.1 innings for the Mets, allowed 6 hits, 2 home runs and 5 earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Mets was Jenrry Mejia (2.92), Ryota Igarashi (10.97), and Elmer Dessens (1.42). The Marlins’s starter Ricky Nolasco went 5.1 innings, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Tim Wood (5.60) also pitched for the Marlins. With the win, Feliciano’s record goes to 2-2, while Hensley falls to 1-2. Francisco Rodriguez earned the save for the Mets, bringing his saves up to 12.

In addition to the 7 runs, the Mets managed 12 hits and committed 2 errors. David Wright led the Mets in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Jeff Francoeur’s 2 hits, and Rod Barajas with 2. Jose Reyes had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Marlins didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Chris Coghlan could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Marlins mustered 6 runs, 10 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Hunter Wendelstedt, Mike Estabrook, Brian Runge and Mike Winters. There were 36,612 Mets ticket holders in attendance at Citi Field.
