Diamondbacks edge Mets by 1

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the New York Mets in 13 innings yesterday in a hard-fought game of baseball. You never know what you’re going to see at a baseball game, and an MLB extra-innings game is always a possibility. Diamondbacks pitcher Blaine Boyer (4.59 ERA) got the win, while Fernando Nieve (6.00 ERA) took the loss for the Mets. Dan Haren went 6 innings for the Diamondbacks, allowed 6 hits, 2 home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Diamondbacks was Esmerling Vasquez (4.32), Aaron Heilman (3.80), Juan Gutierrez (7.13), and Sam Demel (3.60). The Mets’s starter Jonathon Niese went 5 innings, allowed 6 hits, 3 home runs and 3 earned runs with one walk and 6 strikeouts. Elmer Dessens (1.69), Pedro Feliciano (2.70), Bobby Parnell (1.23), Raul Valdes (4.46), and Oliver Perez (6.08) also pitched for the Mets. With the win, Boyer’s record goes to 2-2, while Nieve is at 2-4.

In addition to the 4 runs, the Diamondbacks scored 12 hits and committed one error. Rusty Ryal led the Diamondbacks in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Justin Upton’s 3 hits. Adam LaRoche had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. Angel Pagan had the most hits for the Mets (3), followed by Alex Cora (1). The Mets got 3 runs, 7 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Greg Gibson, Brian Knight, Gerry Davis and Sam Holbrook. There were 18,223 Diamondbacks ticket holders in attendance at Chase Field.
