The Cincinnati Reds squeaked to victory over the New York Mets yesterday at Citi Field with the Reds triumphant 8 to 6. It was a thrilling night of baseball that anyone with Reds tickets will definitely cherish.
Reds pitcher Jordan Smith (3.86 ERA) got the win, while Mike Pelfrey (3.39 ERA) took the loss for the Mets. Travis Wood went 4.2 innings for the Reds, allowed 6 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Reds was Arthur Rhodes (1.06). The Mets’s starter Mike Pelfrey went 4.2 innings, allowed 9 hits, one home run and 7 earned runs with 4 walks and one strikeout. Raul Valdes (5.04), Fernando Nieve (5.40), and Pedro Feliciano (2.34) also pitched for the Mets. With the win, Smith’s record goes to 2-1, while Pelfrey falls to 10-3. Francisco Cordero earned the save for the Reds, bringing his saves up to 23.
In addition to the 8 runs, the Reds managed 11 hits and committed 2 errors. Joey Votto led the Reds in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Travis Wood’s one hit. Jonny Gomes had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Mets didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Mets mustered 6 runs, 9 hits and no errors.
