The Philadelphia Phillies squeaked to victory over the New York Mets yesterday at Citizens Bank Park with the Phillies earning the win 6 to 5. It was one heck of a game that devotees with Phillies tickets will definitely cherish.
Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay (2.34 ERA) got the win, while R.A. Dickey (2.65 ERA) took the loss for the Mets. Roy Halladay went 7 solid innings for the Phillies, allowed 9 hits, no home runs and 5 earned runs with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Phillies was Ryan Madson (4.01). The Mets’s starter R.A. Dickey went 3 innings, allowed 8 hits, 2 home runs and 4 earned runs with one walk and no strikeouts. Raul Valdes (4.73), Hisanori Takahashi (4.13), Pedro Feliciano (3.14), and Manny Acosta (2.18) also pitched for the Mets. With the win, Halladay’s record goes to 14-8, while Dickey is at 7-5. Brad Lidge earned the save for the Phillies, bringing his saves up to 14.
In addition to the 6 runs, the Phillies scored 12 hits and committed one error. Jayson Werth led the Phillies in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Wilson Valdez’s 2 hits, and Jimmy Rollins with 2. Josh Thole had the most hits for the Mets (3), followed by Angel Pagan (2), and Jose Reyes (2). Carlos Beltran could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Mets got 5 runs, 10 hits and one error.
